Join us in closing a dangerous loophole that puts our children at risk. In California, and most of the other states in the US, childcare providers who have been banned for serious violations can evade justice and continue endangering young lives simply by filing an affidavit to open private schools.

This loophole exists due to a lack of coordination between the states Department of Social Services (DSS) and the states Department of Education (DE). While DSS can revoke licenses and enforce bans, it has no authority over private schools approved by the DE. This separation allows individuals who have been deemed unfit to care for children to legally operate private schools, putting countless children at risk.

We believe every child deserves a safe and nurturing environment. That’s why we’re calling on lawmakers to take immediate action and close this loophole. By ensuring that bans on childcare providers extend to all educational settings, we can better protect our children and prevent those who have violated trust and safety standards from continuing to work with kids.
